DICK JOHNSON 1937-2006
Dick Johnson, Dean of the WGAN News Department, passed away May 24th, 2006 as a result of complications stemming from a cardiac arrest he suffered several months earlier.
Johnson served nearly 40 years as an anchor and reporter in the Portland area, nearly all of them at WGAN-AM. He was present at nearly every major event in the state of Maine during that time. For his decades of service he was honored in 2003 by his colleagues and inducted into the Maine Association of Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame.
On September 13th, in a ceremony attended by Dick’s three sons, Rick, Mark, and Brian, and his cousin, area broadcasting veteran Bob Fuller, WGAN honored the broadcast legend by renaming the news center the Dick Johnson Newsroom.
All of us at WGAN will never forget Dick’s dedication and commitment to the broadcasting profession and Newsradio 560 WGAN.
